Class Description
The majority of food gardeners are, or want to be, organic in their approach. This class will delve into some of the critical principles and techniques of organic vegetable gardening such as fertilizers, organic IPM, weed control, pollinators, and season extension. There will be also be some engaging pre-class assignments, classroom discussion, and lots of hands-on learning in the Demonstration Garden.
This class will count as 7 continuing education hours and 7 hours towards the Advanced Vegetable Gardening certificate.

9:00-9:30am - Sign in, introductions, light refreshments
9:30-10:30 - Lecture
10:30-10:45 - Break
10:45-11:45 - Lecture
11:45-12:15 - Lunch break
12:30-2:00 - Breakout Session 1 in the demonstration garden
2:00-3:30 - Breakout Session 2 in the demonstration garden
3:30-3:45 - Travel to Carroll County Farm Museum Heirloom Garden
3:45-4:15 - Tour of Heirloom Garden

Primary Instructor
Mr. Traunfeld is an Extension Specialist in Vegetables and Fruits with University of Maryland Extension. He serves as Director of Home and Garden Information Center and State Coordinator for the Maryland Master Gardener program. He helps lead the Grow It Eat It Program that teaches and advises backyard, community, and school food gardeners.
